Summer is Here! AC Malfunctioning- Top 5 Common Issues and Their Solutions

When the temperatures increase, your home can rapidly become an uncomfortable place if your central air conditioner isn’t working properly. During summer service calls, AC repair experts often see common AC concerns, including leaks or insufficient cooling.  You rely on your central air conditioner to keep you cool during summer, but even the most reliable units eventually develop problems that need troubleshooting and fixing.

This article will highlight five common issues and how to fix them to ensure that your air conditioner operates efficiently throughout the season.

  1. AC Is Not Letting Out Cold Air.

If your air conditioner starts on but doesn’t blow cold air, inspect the thermostat and vents. The air filter could be clogged by foreign materials, preventing airflow. Since evaporator coils may freeze, ice and frost will further block airflow. Clean the filter with water, soap, and a gentle brush. Clean and replace your filter often to avoid that issue. This could be caused by the fan not functioning properly. If the fan spins easily, there may be a refrigerant line leak or motor power issue. These conditions usually require a technician to inspect the unit.

  1. Insufficient AC Cooling.

Make sure all vents are open. The warm air from the room with the closed vent will mix with the cooled air making it harder to cool your home. Could be you have a refrigerant line leakage or your old or incorrectly installed system may be worn out or too small for your home. Too-small systems work harder to cool your home, causing premature collapse. If this situation persists after the remedy, have it checked by a technician.

  1. Leakage of Water.

If your AC unit leaks water inside, outside, or when off, it needs to be checked. A clogged condensate drain line might leak water into your home. When drain pipe water backs up, many air conditioners trip and turn off their float switches. If there is no obstruction, the drain pan may be rusted or the condensate pump may fail. Service technicians fix or repair faulty parts. If the AC is working, water drips outside are typical. If not switched on, clean or replace air filters and have a professional inspect if no change. Leakage, when the AC is off, may indicate low refrigerant or blocked filters.

  1. The AC Not Turning On Or Off.

In some scenarios, the AC unit could malfunction and not may not turn on, or not stop running. For these issues, you need to look at the thermostat and set it properly, clean and unclog the air filters, confirm the drain line is not clogged, and confirm the unit setup on temperatures is as it should be.

  1. Malfunctioning of The Unit Fan.

This issue may be caused by ice on the evaporator coil, which you must melt and have a technician fix or replace. You should also check and fix the circuit breaker tripping. For proper operation, check the outside fan motor for dust and grime and clean it.
